Baron Weather is a passionate and customer-focused leader in global weather solutions, revolutionizing industries with our focus on excellence and accuracy. Our team is a professional marketing team that takes pride in doing good work, supporting each other, and building things that hold up over time. We move with purpose, value the people on our team, and believe the best digital experiences come from developers who genuinely care about the details.
We're looking for a contractor who will become part of our team and will take ownership of our web presence, building and maintaining our HTML sites, managing our HubSpot CMS environment, and updating our documentation portal into a modern environment that is well designed, useful for developers and easy to navigate. You'll work across multiple active projects simultaneously, embedded with our team with consistent hours, real ownership, and a long runway to do meaningful work.
You'll take projects from concept through launch and collaborate directly with our marketing and product teams as needed.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and maintain HTML/CSS/JavaScript pages and sites across Baron's web environments including HTML, WordPress, and HubSpot CMS, adhering to brand standards, performance benchmarks, and accessibility requirements.
- Develop responsive, mobile-first landing pages, campaign pages, and core site experiences.
- Conduct regular audits for broken links, outdated content, cross-browser issues, and layout inconsistencies — and resolve them.
- In partnership with our Digital Marketing team, help define and execute a GEO, SEO, and SEM strategy focused on driving qualified traffic and improving conversion across the funnel.
- Own our HubSpot CMS environment. Build and maintain HubSpot templates, custom modules, and themes using HubL.
- Ensure security features and integrations are in line with modern best practices.
- Own the architecture, structure, and ongoing maintenance of our documentation portal.
- Work with product, engineering, and support teams to keep API documentation current, accurate, and structured for its audience.
- Run regular audits using a variety of tools like Moz, Lighthouse, Google Search Console, and others— and act on what you find to keep our web presence healthy and secure
- Monitor Core Web Vitals, page speed, uptime, and crawl health on an ongoing basis and take advantage of technical tools that analyze the audience experience and use of the site looking for problems and recommending improvements.
- Work with IT to maintain SSL/TLS certificates, enforce HTTPS, and implement security headers across all Baron web properties.
- Manage dependency updates, flag vulnerabilities, and maintain clean staging and production environments.
- Analyze user behavior and web performance metrics to identify opportunities for improving page conversion rates.
Qualifications
You should be able to do these things independently, without needing someone to walk you through them:
- 3–4 years of professional web development experience and a portfolio of real, shipped work you're proud of.
- An understanding of modern web design, an eye for good design while coordinating with our in-house graphic artists and adhering to our brand guide.
- Strong, hands-on HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
- Develop responsive, mobile-first design that is cross-browser tested.
- Git and collaborative version control as standard practice.
- Experience building or maintaining a documentation website.
- Comfort running Lighthouse and Google Search Console audits and knowing what to do with the results.
- A genuine understanding of accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) not as a checkbox, but as part of how you build.
- Clear, professional written communication. Your commit messages, status updates, and README files should be something you'd stand behind.
HubSpot CMS experience is a strong plus for this role. Candidates with hands-on HubSpot CMS and HubL development experience, especially custom templates and modules, will be prioritized in our review. HubSpot CMS Developer Certification is a meaningful differentiator.
