Road Conditions

Hi-res Road Conditions - Forecast
Forecast Model: ROADCOND1KMCONUS24H
Time Step: 1 hour
Resolution: 1km
Forecast Period: 24 hours

The exclusive Baron Road Conditions Forecast is now at 1km resolution and features several enhancements for improved accuracy. This is a 24-hour forecast that identifies future flooded, wet, icy, and snowy conditions with unrivaled accuracy. This product covers the continental U.S., southern Canada, and northern Mexico.

Data Product Group: Currents
Time Step: 5 minutes
Resolution: 1km

The exclusive Baron Current Road Conditions product is now at 1km resolution, giving users the ability to identify roadways that are flooded, wet, icy, or snowy with more precision. This product covers the continental U.S., southern Canada, and northern Mexico.

Winter Weather

HRRR Freezing Rain, Sleet and Snow Totals
Forecast Model: HRRRCONUS
Time Step: 15 minutes, hourly after 18 hours
Resolution: 3km
Forecast Period: Up to 48 Hrs. (0z,6z,12z,18z)

Forecast accumulations for freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Each of these products is available in this high-resolution, hourly updated, model. Adaptive snow-fall ratios for easier forecasting during a winter event are utilized; multiple snowfall ratios are calculated into a single product.

Winter Storm Severity Indices
Data Product Group: Winter
Time Step: Updates every 30 minutes
Resolution: 3km

A series of Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI) products issued by the NWS Weather Prediction Center. The impacts covered are:

  • Overall Impact
  • Snow Amount
  • Snow Load
  • Ice Accumulation
  • Flash Freeze
  • Blowing Snow
  • Ground Blizzard

 

The potential winter storm impacts are classified as:

  • No impacts
  • Limited impacts
  • Minor impacts
  • Moderate impacts
  • Major impacts
  • Extreme impacts

The impacts are available for Days 1-3 and individually as Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3, except for the Flash Freeze impact which has Day 1-1.5 and Day 1.

The impacts are tailored to regional weather criteria, which could cause the impact forecasts to differ near NWS CWA boundaries.

Data Retirement

On February 1, 2022, Baron will retire several data products. All these products have newer versions or alternatives available in Lynx. The products being retired are:

  • Old BAMS AQI Model: replace with BaronAQI model
  • Level 3 Composite Reflectivity {product 302}: replace with Level 2 Precip Type Composite {product 362} and Baron Radar Mosaic {product 996}
  • Level 2 Composite Reflectivity {product 31a}: replace with Level 2 Precip Type Composite {product 362} and Baron Radar Mosaic {product 996}
  • Level 3 Precip Type Composite {product 364}: replace with Level 2 Precip Type Composite {product 362} and Baron Radar Mosaic {product 996}
