Resilient transport isn’t a topic the average consumer thinks about each day. But it IS a topic that significantly affects us. In the last few years, the world has become privy to a fact that meteorologists have known for years. No area, city, community, or region in the world is immune to extreme weather events.
As extreme weather events increase in frequency and duration, surface transportation systems typically become unreliable and slow during extreme weather events. Delays can cause massive disruptions and supply chain issues.
While our societies must have resilient transport, how can we create an industry that can withstand the abuses of Mother Nature? Our Vice President of Integrated Systems, Jon Tarleton, touches on this topic in the article he’s written called “Heavy Weather,” which was published in the July/August issue of ITS International Magazine.
While the ITS industry can help the transportation network to remain efficient as the climate changes, Jon discusses the vital actions (and products) needed — where the proverbial (and literal) rubber meets the road.
