Baron Celebrates National Oceans Month with Better Modeling for Mariners
Oceans are known as our environment’s “lungs”, providing oxygen, food, and medicine to all who call Earth home. Whether we’re enjoying a trip at sea or endeavoring to keep our water healthy, weather over water can be dangerous. Baron’s superior forecast modeling can empower mariners and oceanographers to stay safe and be more effective with their efforts.
Celebrating National Oceans Month
As the world’s population continues to grow, so does the demand on our oceans. Industrial activity, aquaculture, tourism, and coastal development all put pressure on ocean ecosystems. In recognition of this, the United Nations designated June 8th as “World Ocean Day”. Not long after, “National Oceans Month” was born as an opportunity to further raise awareness about the importance of healthy oceans and the threats they face. This month is also a time to celebrate the ocean’s bounty and appreciate its many benefits.
Our oceans are a vital source of food and livelihood for billions of people. They also play a key role in regulating the Earth’s climate and cycling vital nutrients. Yet, they are increasingly under threat from human activities. National Oceans Month is an opportunity to learn about these threats and what we can do to protect our oceans.
High-Resolution Weather and Water Modeling
Weather prediction is vital for many industries, including maritime transportation. Recently, there have been significant advancements in high-resolution weather prediction modeling, which is providing more accurate data and timely forecasts.
High-resolution weather prediction models are able to take into account a variety of factors, including the effects of the ocean and atmospheric conditions. As a result, they are able to provide more accurate predictions of weather patterns. In addition, these models are updated more frequently, allowing for more timely forecasts. The improved accuracy and timeliness of high-resolution weather prediction modeling is helping to improve maritime forecasting and avoid disruptions due to weather events.
A Unique, Life-Saving Solution
An expert in high-resolution water and weather modeling, Baron Weather not only provides accurate weather data solutions but is highly experienced in creating custom solutions to solve unique problems.
In 2021, Baron was chosen by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics (BMKG) to assist in providing a state-of-the-art modeling system that will help maritime industries in Indonesia have a better understanding of weather conditions that could impact the safety and efficiency of their operations.
Baron will be creating this CAWO (Coupled Atmospheric Water and Ocean) modeling system in partnership with primary contractor CLS Group. This new and unique modeling system will be a coupling of 3 previously distinct modeling components, making it an emerging technology in the field of “metocean” prediction.
