Baron Weather, a global innovator in advanced weather technology for over 35 years, is redefining how government, public and private organizations, forecasters and emergency managers respond to the world's deadliest flooding threat. Baron Flood Finder is an AI-powered flash flood intelligence solution that delivers basin-level flood guidance on demand, anywhere in the world, in as little as 5 to 10 minutes and at resolutions as fine as 10 meters. Flood Finder provides actionable flood intelligence while a threat is developing, not hours later.

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), flash floods are the most lethal form of flooding, responsible for nearly 85% of flood-related fatalities worldwide and more than $50 billion in annual economic losses. Yet traditional flood modeling can take hours to produce results, time agencies don't have when a warning needs to go out now. Flood Finder closes that gap with a novel, physics-trained AI model that couples weather radar with Baron's weather modeling. The model is built around the natural structure of water basins and engineered for the speed demands of operational forecasting. Rather than mapping flood extent alone, it shows what floodwater will do on the ground over time.

"In a flash flood, the difference between a warning that saves lives and one that comes too late is measured in minutes," said Jon Tarleton, VP of Integrated Weather Systems at Baron Weather. "Flood Finder provides street-level guidance on where water will go, how deep it will get and how fast it will move, while there's still time to act on it."

Ready to Use Guidance

Flood Finder combines real-time radar precipitation estimates, high-resolution numerical weather prediction and a physics-trained AI flood model into a single, integrated flood intelligence solution.

Precipitation input can come from an existing regional radar network or, for the sharpest results, a local C-band or S-band radar delivering real-time Quantitative Precipitation Estimates (QPE). A high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) model, such as Baron's 3-km global or local forecast model or a custom regional model, supplies Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts (QPF) of developing threats. The AI flood flow model then resolves depth, velocity and direction at the resolution of available terrain mapping, as fine as 10 meters worldwide. Higher-resolution inputs, including radar closer to the target area, directly improve accuracy and spatial detail. Results are delivered in industry-standard formats such as GeoTIFF for seamless integration into existing workflows.

For National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), this speed makes impact-based flash flood warnings operationally achievable, even for agencies without an existing flood modeling program. Baron can deliver radar, NWP and AI flood modeling as a complete package for agencies building capacity from the ground up, or work alongside existing infrastructure. Either way, Flood Finder removes the cost and complexity barriers that have kept advanced flood modeling out of reach, giving forecasters and emergency managers everywhere, especially in the regions least equipped to respond, the confidence to act when it matters most. The approach directly supports the WMO's Early Warnings for All initiative.

Flood Finder Sierra Inn, Swain NY 2
Baron Flood Finder simulated maximum water depth for Sierra Inn, Swain, NY over a 12-hour period beginning on March 31, 2026. Flooding is concentrated along Canaseraga Creek and the NY-70 corridor, with a modeled depth of 2.88 m at the Inn location and widespread inundation along Canaseraga Creek northwest of Swain.

Proven Against Real-World Events

Flood Finder has been validated through retrospective reconstructions of recent high-impact events, including the 2024 Dubai flooding and Hurricane Helene, the 2025 Kerr County, Texas flash floods and Tropical Cyclone Alfred. These case studies, along with a live demonstration, will be featured at Baron Weather's booth C12 at the Meteorological Technology World Expo, October 5–8 at RAI Amsterdam. Not there this year?
